Sport

RGS Surrey Hills is an independent day and boarding school in Surrey with a growing reputation for sport, performance pathways and pupil development.

Sport here is not treated as an add-on. It is a central part of school life. Every student is expected to take part, to commit and to improve. Whether competing regularly or building confidence through participation, students develop discipline, resilience and a strong sense of team.

Through a structured programme of Games, Physical Education and co-curricular sport, pupils are encouraged to test themselves, support one another and take pride in representing the school.

From first involvement to high performance, the focus is consistent. Sport builds confidence strengthens character and creates a sense of belonging.

Sport reflects the wider ethos of RGS Surrey Hills. It is pupil-centred, ambitious and grounded in community.

  • Big Opportunities: A broad and evolving sports programme give every student the chance to take part and progress
  • Big Team Spirit: Students learn to contribute, compete and support one another
  • Big Heart: Effort and attitude matter as much as outcome
  • Big Futures: Pathways support progression into elite sport, higher education and lifelong participation
  • Big Community: Sport connects students across year groups, houses and disciplines

This is a small school environment where students are known, coached and supported as individuals, allowing them to grow with confidence.

Sport for All: Participation and Engagement

An inclusive sports programme ensures that every pupil is involved. This is not a selective model. Participation is expected and supported.

Students have access to a wide range of clubs, activities and training sessions, allowing them to explore different sports and build confidence over time. For some, this means representing the school. For others, it means developing fitness, enjoying competition or trying something new.

From mountain biking in the Surrey Hills to team sports and fitness training, the programme is designed to remain broad and responsive.

Sport plays a key role in building routine, energy and connection across the school.

Striving for Excellence: Performance Pathways

Alongside participation, RGS Surrey Hills offers performance pathways for students with ambition in sport. These pathways provide:

  • Structured coaching and training programmes
  • Strength and conditioning support
  • Competitive fixtures and development opportunities
  • Exposure to higher levels of performance sport

The programme is enhanced by partnerships with leading clubs including Chelsea, Surrey Cricket, Surrey 89 Basketball and Holcombe Hockey Club. These links provide access to expert coaching, high-performance environments and valuable insight, helping students progress confidently while fostering a lasting passion for sport and achievement.

Sport Scholarships

Sport scholarships are available at 11+, 13+ and 16+ for students who demonstrate potential, commitment and a strong attitude towards training and competition.
