After graduating with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Bristol, Mary-Ann began her career as a graduate engineer with the Ministry of Defence before retraining as a teacher, completing a PGCE in Physics and Sport. Her teaching career has spanned several leading independent schools, including posts in Surrey, the West Midlands and Sussex.
Mary-Ann was appointed Deputy Head at Brighton College, where she worked closely with Sir Anthony Seldon on a major school improvement initiative. At the time, she was recognised as the youngest Deputy Head of an HMC school. Following this, she became Senior Deputy Head at Reigate Grammar School, where she has led on teaching and learning, staff development and strategic academic improvement.
Most recently, Mary-Ann led the school to achieve the High Performing School Award (HPSA), a school-driven model that integrates the High-Performance Learning philosophy across all aspects of school life. The award supports a culture where every student is seen as a potential high achiever, helping good schools become great by building on their strengths.
Mary-Ann brings a wealth of senior leadership experience, having worked across almost every area of school life – from academic strategy and pastoral development to operational oversight and staff leadership, giving her a deep, practical understanding of what makes a school thrive.
She has also served as an inspector for the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI), bringing valuable external perspective to her leadership and a strong understanding of sector-wide expectations and standards.
With a particular interest and experience in supporting neurodiverse learners, she is committed to creating an inclusive environment where every student can thrive.
A passionate advocate for holistic, high-quality education, Mary-Ann believes in empowering both staff and students to realise their full potential. Outside of school, she enjoys walking in the countryside with her family and black labrador and travelling together whenever possible.
